Biwamaru.<\/p>\n
Biwamaru is recognizable by his tall, lanky frame, his bald head and “one-eye-bigger-than-the-other” blank stare. Given his appearance, in particular the shape of his nose, it is suspected that his visual design is related to that of Heck Ben<\/a>.<\/p>\n Biwamaru is a blind travelling hermit whose humble appearance belies his considerable hidden skills. \u00a0Although he is not considered a villain, his motives are not always clear. \u00a0As a member of the supporting cast, he usually offers the protagonist advice or assistance, but it comes in the form of a lesson… and not always an easy one.<\/p>\n In his first appearance in Dororo<\/em> (1967-69)<\/a> he appears as a wandering blind musician and swordsman. \u00a0However, he is probably best known for his named appearances in Black Jack<\/em> (1973-83)<\/a> as a blind acupuncturist who wanders Japan practicing his healing techniques. \u00a0He has also made an appearance in Duke Goblin<\/em> (1985).<\/p>\n If you spot an appearance not already listed, please let us know in the comments section below!<\/p>\n Dororo<\/a><\/em> (“The Monk”) as “the blind monk”<\/p>\n Black Jack<\/em><\/a> (“The Blind Acupuncturist”) as “the blind acupuncturist, Biwamaru” Duke Goblin<\/em> as “the priest of Tenran”<\/p>\n Biwamaru is a blind travelling hermit whose humble appearance belies his considerable hidden skills.
