{"id":1100,"date":"2014-01-29T15:30:06","date_gmt":"2014-01-29T15:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/wp\/?page_id=1100"},"modified":"2015-10-06T13:29:14","modified_gmt":"2015-10-06T13:29:14","slug":"jetter-mars-star","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/wp\/?page_id=1100","title":{"rendered":"Jetter Mars (Star)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/star-jetter_mars.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  alignleft wp-image-6977 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/star-jetter_mars.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/star-jetter_mars.png 150w, https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/star-jetter_mars-60x60.png 60w, https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/star-jetter_mars-100x100.png 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jetter Mars was the protagonist of the 1977\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/bm\/series\/series_j\/series-jetter_mars\/index.shtml\">anime television show<\/a>\u00a0of the same name.\u00a0 Mars was a character that Osamu Tezuka created because the rights for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/bm\/characters\/stars_a\/astro-boy-aka-atom.shtml\">Astro Boy<\/a>\u00a0were owned by<a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/bm\/characters\/stars_a\/astro-boy-aka-atom.shtml\">Astro Boy<\/a>&#8216;s sponsor, Meiji Seika Kaisha at the time.\u00a0 Mars&#8217;s first appearance was on a New Year&#8217;s postcard that Tezuka drew in January 1977.<\/p>\n<p>Like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/bm\/characters\/stars_a\/astro-boy-aka-atom.shtml\">Astro Boy<\/a>, Mars is a powerful android with the appearance of a boy but the Mars has some notable differences both in origin and personality.\u00a0 There are two people responsible for his creation.\u00a0 His body was built by Dr. Yamanoue but his artificial intelligence was designed and implemented by Dr. Kawashimo, since Yamanoue was unable to create a working AI for his robot.\u00a0 Dr. Yamanoue named Mars after the Roman God of War as he was originally built for military purposes.\u00a0 Mars was born as a blank state and did not understand the difference between right or wrong.\u00a0 However, due to Dr. Kawashimo&#8217;s design, Mars was capable of feeling emotions.\u00a0 Dr. Kawashimo and Dr. Yamanoue often fought about how he should be raised and treated.\u00a0 Through the course of the series, he learns to understand his emotions and about morals.\u00a0 Mars is very close to Dr. Kawashimo&#8217;s robot \u201cdaughter\u201d, Miri.\u00a0 She helps Mars in understanding the world around him and Mars is very open with her.<\/p>\n<p>Mars has a childish personality is very naive about the world.\u00a0 Mars trends to trust people very easily which at times leads him into dangerous situations.\u00a0 Also, unlike\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/bm\/characters\/stars_a\/astro-boy-aka-atom.shtml\">Astro Boy<\/a>, Mars is mischievous.\u00a0 Sometimes he plays practical jokes on people and he enjoys slapstick.\u00a0 Mari Shimizu, the voice actress who played both Mars and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/bm\/characters\/stars_a\/astro-boy-aka-atom.shtml\">Astro Boy<\/a>, was asked about his mischievous nature in a lecture that Mari Shimizu held at the Kanda Univesity of International Studies.\u00a0 At the end of the lecture, she commented on the difference between the two characters, as Mars had a mischievous personality while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/bm\/characters\/stars_a\/astro-boy-aka-atom.shtml\">Astro Boy<\/a>\u00a0was portrayed more as an \u201chonor student\u201d type character.\u00a0 Mari Shimizu also noted that Mars\u2019s relationship with Miri was the opposite of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/bm\/characters\/stars_a\/astro-boy-aka-atom.shtml\">Astro Boy<\/a>\u00a0and Uran\u2019s since the hero (Mars in this case) was the one being helped by his sister. Mars is also affectionate as he cares deeply for his friends and family and he willing to protect them from danger.\u00a0 Mars also gains a strong sense of justice throughout the series.<\/p>\n<p>Mars is not a common character in Tezuka&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tezuka.strobez.ca\/bm\/characters\/index.shtml\">Star System<\/a>.
