Good Friend<\/em>

Good Friend<\/a><\/em> is a monthly shojo<\/em>\u00a0manga published by Kodansha<\/a> in Japan, with a target demographic of young girls aged 9 – 15.<\/p>\n

It was first launched in December 1954 – albeit with the January 1955 issue – and the inaugural edition featured Tezuka’s serial\u00a0The Story of Tonkara Valley<\/em>\u00a0(1955-56).<\/p>\n

For a period of over ten years, from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s, Good Friend<\/a><\/em>\u00a0readers enjoyed\u00a0an almost uninterrupted run of Tezuka’s work. \u00a0Aside from one short-story,\u00a0The Song of the White Peacock<\/em> (1959) it has primarily featured long-form serial adventures geared towards an audience of elementary and junior high school-aged\u00a0girls.<\/p>\n

As such, it was been home to most of Tezuka’s important shojo<\/em>\u00a0manga series, including\u00a0The Twin Knights<\/em>\u00a0(1958-59)<\/a>,\u00a0Angel’s Hill<\/em>\u00a0(1960-61) and the remake version of\u00a0Princess Knight<\/em> [Nakayoshi]\u00a0(1963-66)<\/a>.<\/p>\n
