Cactus, Get Your Gun!<\/em>\u00a0(1952)<\/p><\/div>\n

Also sometimes referred to as Milkhall Territory<\/em>, Osamu Tezuka’s cowboy adventure, The Cactus Kid<\/em>\u00a0(1951-54)<\/a> was originally printed in the pages of\u00a0Shonen Illustrated\u00a0(\u5c11\u5e74\u753b\u5831)<\/span>,\u00a0published by Shonen Gahosha. \u00a0It began serialization in April 1951 and concluded its first run in March 1953. \u00a0However, after\u00a0Cyrano the Hero<\/em> (1953) – the series that followed it – came to a close in November 1953,\u00a0The Cactus Kid<\/em>\u00a0(1951-54)<\/a> began its second run in December 1953, and would continue for another year until it ended again, this time for good, in December 1954.<\/p>\n

In addition to the 23 chapters serialized over the course of its first run, and the 13 chapters from its second run, one stand-alone\u00a0story, known as\u00a0Cactus, Get Your Gun!<\/em>, was also published as a supplemental insert and packaged alongside the September 1952 edition of\u00a0Shonen Illustrated\u00a0(\u5c11\u5e74\u753b\u5831)<\/span> – bringing the grand total to 37 chapters.<\/p>\n

It is also worth noting that most modern editions of\u00a0The Cactus Kid<\/em>\u00a0(1951-54)<\/a>\u00a0are based on\u00a0the Osamu Tezuka Complete Manga Works<\/em><\/a> edition (MT-069<\/a>) that Tezuka himself edited in 1980. \u00a0There are significant differences between that edition and what was originally published, with some chapters having been excluded, and\/or combined together – usually with new material as well. \u00a0Since the Complete Manga Works<\/em><\/a> edition\u00a0was not broken up into chapters, and is made up of loosely connected story arcs instead, none of the chapters (with the exception of the stand-alone insert story) have been titled.<\/p>\n

Introducing “Cactus” Sam<\/a> (originally played by Rock Holmes<\/a> in this\u00a0chapter), a boy who loves milk so much that he changes the sign on his father, Chad<\/a>‘s tavern to “milk hall” against his father’s wishes. \u00a0Although Cactus<\/a> foils a plot by Bildarl to rig the town election, the tavern is nearly destroyed in the process and Chad<\/a>\u00a0agrees that a milk hall might be safer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
