Good Friend<\/em>
May 1958<\/p><\/div>\n

Although The Twin Knights<\/em>\u00a0(1958-59)<\/a> is a follow up to the original\u00a0Princess Knight<\/em> [Shojo Club] (1953-56)<\/a>, in a strange way, it owes much of it\u2019s existence to a little-known work of Osamu Teukza\u2019s known as The Kokeshi Detective Bureau<\/em> (1957).<\/p>\n

The reason for that is because The Kokeshi Detective Bureau<\/em> (1957), which was being published in the popular girl\u2019s magazine\u00a0Good Friend<\/a><\/em>, was doing so poorly that the editorial staff began to push Tezuka to continue the story of\u00a0Princess Knight<\/em> [Shojo Club] (1953-56)<\/a>, which had wrapped up publication in Shojo Club<\/a><\/em> the year before.<\/p>\n

And so, Tezuka dusted off the (already well-known) Princess Knight<\/em>\u00a0title (it wouldn’t be\u00a0renamed Twin Knight<\/em>\u00a0until it was collected in a book edition in 1960), and crafted an eerily similar gender-bending story of Sapphire<\/a> and Franz’s children – a twin brother and sister named Prince Daisy and Princess Violetta.<\/p>\n

And so, the series that would become known as\u00a0The Twin Knights<\/em>\u00a0(1958-59)<\/a>\u00a0began its monthly serialization in the January 1958 issue of\u00a0Good Friend<\/a><\/em>\u00a0and would be published for 18\u00a0consecutive months until the storyline wrapped up in June 1959.<\/p>\n
